Trend File #012 | All Eyes On Balmain: It’s BALMANIA Season!
Alright so I don’t know if you have been scanning the web as of late….but I had to add my two cents into this newly found obsession by many…BALMAIN! Seeing as though by nature I am a woman of simplistic taste, it seems as though everyone including their grandmothers have been on hawk mode – slapping down cash, credit, and a left arm…just to make all heads turn this season. There is no doubt that the celebrities make no qualms of their everyday over the top spending. Case in point…Beyonce – who was spotted on Monday night (here in NYC), rocking the Micheal Jackson-like Balmain Crystal-embellished canvas jacket. To which might I add comes with a mortgage-like down payment of $11,410. Beyonce isn’t the only one on the BALMAIN tip….Rihanna has her Balmain game on total smash. Switching up jackets & footwear, Rihanna has made it known for the past two months that she is an avid Balmain supporter. Along with celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, who has been seen sporting Balmain jackets as of late which has kicked off heavy style jury debates. So your probably wondering where do I fit into all of this hoopla ….right? Well….I can’t really figure out what the real big deal is on the entire “BALMAINIA” trend. In my honest opinion….there is no real “Wow factor”. Super retro 80′s styled pointy shoulder pads tucked under lambskin bothers me! Over the top crystallized shoes & jackets totally scream TACKY! Not to mention the price! I am all for expensive baubles and totally love luxury pieces of all kinds…but this Balmain trend has not moved me off of my seat. The only exception thus far comes in the form of the Balmain Tassel Ankle Sandals – which are very cute for the upcoming summer. Other than that…I am still stumped on the selections seen thus far! Ladies, how are you feeling about Balmain? Are we good to go on this seasons trend? Or are you feeling the same way I feel?

tee i would definitely have to agree with you! I’ve seen sites like nitrolicious and others that obsess over this crap for no real reason! thank goodness there is someone who has some kind of sense! and you are right about the prices as well! no one has a real idea of what a recession really is!
Hey Candice, yeah I know that some folks love Balmain to the point where it’s insane. And would you believe that Balmain items are selling out right and left? The thing is that we cant crucify folks who really have an affinity towards the brand….but from a personal note…I can’t really dig what I’ve seen thus far.
OMG when I here shoulder pads I freakin’ cringe!!! My mom used to wear shoulder pads with EVERYTHING including T- shirts!! She would safety pin them to her bra!?!?!?! Thank GOD that’s over LOL
Damn they weren’t kidding when they said history repeats itself!! I’m sorry but 11 g’s for a shoulder padded jacket? I thought were in a recession? All those Balmain pieces that you have pictured you can get at a vintage shop for way cheaper. I can’t believe that people pay out the ass to look retro.

It is incredibly expensive and apparently insensitive to the nature of this economy. Maybe it was designed for the Europeans, cause they’re the ones making the money. The designs are super cute though….though they lack originality. Tee you should find some similar affordable options. That would be a great post!

Im in LOVE with Balmain… I tired on the black heels with the studs and everything else.. want so bad but thats 3 pairs of CLs or Jimmy Choos so. And shoulder pads are really coming back
