Karl Lagerfeld To Leave Chanel

LAWD HAVE MERCY! Alright when I read this via “THE CUT” I almost fell off of my chair and hit my head on the kick stand. Alright, I’m exaggerating…but still! This news was bound to happen. I was just hopping it wouldn’t happen so soon. But then again…when you think about it, many of the fashion houses do need to make room for fresh new faces. According to A Shaded View: “This is not a fact until you officially read it somewhere else but rumour has it that Karl Lagerfeld will not renew his contract at Chanel and that Albert Elbaz will take his place and Olivier Theyskens will take Albert’s place at Lanvin. Both choices make perfect sense to me. Schaparelli has decided to change directions and do a not so expensive line . Nothing is engraved in cement, these are still just rumors you will have to wait and see. Of course, if this rumor is true it will have been Karl’s choice, like YSL before him and Valentino and Issey Miyake.” Please keep in mind that this report does have some rumor to it…..but still – Unkie Karl did not resign his contract. Could he be tired of designing all together? I mean this man is a serious work-a-holic….then again we should be reminded the Karl is indeed in his 70′s and may want to take full advantage of his pension plan. Could Alber reign supreme and take Chanel into another direction? Perhaps bringing more youth and inspiration behind the luxury brand? Either way we are all stuck on neutral. But in the mean time…while news reports still brew…check out some of the latest from Chanel after the jump!

I think that this will be a good face lift for chanel to be quiet honest. I am getting tired of seeing the same old thing. The only reformat that miss is Tom Ford leaving Gucci. Since then it hasnt been the same. But Alber will do great I am sure.

this is very interesting. but did do we really have to go with alber elbaz? I mean his aesthetic is interesting but I’ve seen a whole lot better. there has to be a better replacement for karl.

alber is fantastic with Lanvin, I’d be excited to see him take the reigns over at Chanel. I agree @chocospami, the house of chanel could use a face lift for sure! Uncle karl you can live @ my crib until you decide. maybe we can make a bunch of ‘karl who’ totes and tees…whatdoya think?! lol

I feel you dee! We need a change to the fashion game. I mean look at some of the options we have right now! No real variety, same inspiration, same themes. I need a change of pace. Especially if people plan on forking over tons of cash just for the sake of a label. Karl needs to retire at this point and make room for upcoming talent.

karl lagerfeld leaving chanel?! tee you are right, it was bound to happen but on a very important note I think that chanel has really been slacking all around. I think that everyone sits and marvels too much about the man behind the sunglasses and blank stare. what really has karl lagerfeld done that is so marvelous? I still dont get it? fashion has become such a joke in a sense, that everyone is pooled in a farm to think that everything is wonderful when its not! there are great designers on the come up like Alexander Wang, Gareth Pugh, and a list of YOUTHFUL designers. Chanel always reminded me of old ladys clothing and handbags. the same tired quilt, tweeds, and starch consumer that flashes the double c’d logo. Maybe I am just a cynic when it comes to the arts now adays but I am really not impressed as I once was with fashion.

sheshe what are you talking about? alexander wang & gareth pugh are still fairly new designers on the come up. I dont think that they would have to credentials to fill karl lagerfelds shoes. karl has ran fendi & chanel and his own brand over the years. along with being a philanthropist in the process. so get it together and have a little bit more faith in the arts. the recession has everyone bugging out for reals!
