Trend Files #037 | Rappers Protocol: T-Pain’s Big Ass Chain
BLACK FOLK! Yeah, I am saying it! Only black folk! Now some would say “Tee, T-Pain’s purchase is no different from millionaires who spend hundreds of thousands jewelry”. True indeed…but I think it’s really about the process of how it’s done that doesn’t make it such a topic of debate. So when I got word of T-Pain’s recent fashion accessory – I really thought that my friends were joking. I’ll be the first to say that Hip-Hop music & the figures in it have been a complete turn off (to me) for the past few years. A modern menstrual show…and yes…I said it! If it’s not tricked out gold teeth, big gaudy chains, and the same old booty clapping oiled up rear ends that are plastered across the screen – no one finds interest in the gimmick. Mr. Autotunes aka T-Pain, proud fully featured his $410,000 piece on twitter yesterday. According to his stats, his chain weighs 101 pounds…and features 197 karats of diamonds. (Blank stare)…..and T-Pain goes on to saying that it’s “Recession Proof”. Come on….is this man serious? I bet anyone on any given Sunday….hypothetically if T-Pain were to go broke – he wouldn’t break even on his $410k neck piece.
Adding sheer insult to injury T-Pain sounds off in defense of his splurge via Twitter:
“Let’s celebrate the fact a black man can have things like this and still care for 3 kids and wife in a $6 million house with 32 cars. Oldest child 5 and already got 4 million in her own account. I don’t do dumb sh*t like this till I know the fams good. so don’t judge me from what I buy. Judge me from what I do. Cuz it’s so many artists that put themselves before their family.”
(Double Blank Stare)….at least he is aware that his purchase was indeed dumb! But what does this kind of behavior display on African-American culture as a whole? Bad enough many of us do have our own stereotypical outlook on racial lines…but when black culture is concerned there are times when I sit back in the cut and wonder where in the world did behavioral patterns such as this come about. Its a shame, but these rappers which include T-Pain don’t realize that they are influencing the thoughts of many in and outside of the black culture. And unfortunately these are the same folks who are representing our culture which jumpstarts the waves of sterotypical views here in America.

Unfortunately Tee this kind of behavior will cease to end. And you are right about pretty much everything. Look at the times we live in! TPain has no concept of a dollar although he brags about his 32 cars which I am sure all have insurance and a 6 million dollar house that does need taxes and amenities paid monthly one day he will learn that blowing 400k on inanimate objects will bite him in the ass.

If he has the money and has taken care of his family, why can’t he buy what he wants? The chain can always be resold and he probably will recoup his investment because, unlike houses and cars, diamonds rarely lose their value.
this just gave me another reason to not like him even more so than i already do. that’s a bit much. not only is it a bit heavy, but it’s a bit ugly. i guess this is just the same as rick ross having his face as a pendant on a chain. not a good idea.
This is a gotdamn shame. I had so much to say about this … but when I think about the ignorance … my head hurts.
I now want to rob T-Pain. Not just for the money the chain is worth, but just to help put an end to the ignorance.
@ Single Black Male….I am telling you T-Pain should really be kicked twice over for even doing this to himself…and his family! UGH, It’s so hard not to pay attention to this…but its like when you see the chain you want to stretch your hands right through the screen and slap him! UGH…you know damn well he wont be seen rocking this chain too much after all of the heat he is getting for his super LAME purchase!
