Trend News #006 | Rock & Republic Plain Wrap Collection : Are We Loving It?

Goodness….you gals already know how I feel about the current economic state. Along with the current “spur of the moment” marketing ideas of some fashion brands. It’s horrific! And if I didn’t know any better…I’d bite my tongue. But I wont…in fact I’d like to speak to who even is in charge of the latest Plain Wrap Collection for Rock & Republic’s fall line. According to WWD, it’s the latest move by the Los Angeles based premium denim label to evolve with the jinxed economy. Rock & Republic’s Plain Wrap Collection is said to have a lower price point, and will feature T-shirts, jeans, hoodies, windbreakers, leggings, along with a wide variety of basics. What boggles me is the fact that the brand is trying to keep with it’s “Plain Wrap” theory, adding capitalized letter print graphics on each article of clothing – such as (excerpt taken from WWD); a screen print of “LEGGINGS” spans from the calf to the midthigh on the footless tights, and the women’s skinny jeans are identified as “JEANS” on the waistband. I don’t know about you….but I remember the days of hitting Pathmark supermarket with my mother…only to stand front of the dreaded “No Frills” aisle. Not only was it embarrassing as a kid….but this collection definitely screams “No Frills” for Rock & Republic. So just image what young adults might be thinking in the process.
Founder & Creative Director Michael Ball Tells WWD:
This is a new initiative with a new perspective for the consumer that wants fashionable basics with staying power, This is just the start of something bigger, a collection that will evolve and grow with the addition of new product categories in future seasons.”
(Super blank stare)….alright obviously the recession has taken a toll on the creativity aspect of fashion at the prior moment. But the Plain Wrap collection is a spin-off of Rock & Republic’s Recession Collection, which is a limited edition collection that was introduced for this past spring. The collection offered more of a classic look and feel and was marked 22% less than the expensive range. The Plain Wrap collection will be priced marked between $35-$198. Ahhh..and if you think that you are going to find a stellar line of explosive embellished goods – think again! The collection will stick to a basic palette of black, blue, & white hues. The Plain Wrap collection will be sold in Saks Fifth Avenue along with Bloomingdales. Also R&R will go fourth to sell the label on it’s main website, in addition to freestanding stores in Las Vegas & Los Angeles. If you are curious in taking a closer look at the Plain Wrap collection….move straight for the jump!

how many times can we say wack??? this is completely a horrible idea!!! i understand that companies want to market to the youth of america but with branding like this they need to scratch the idea and start all over!
omg I HATE IT! who is going to wear sneakers that have the label sneaker plastered on it?
Sorry, R&R this was really dumb! Who really wants to wear something that says what they are wearing in bold letters?! Um…try again! I think if they would’ve kept it even more simple with their logo on the heel or on the side of the jeans or leggings and kept the same discounted price, that might have been better. But this is ugly.
i am in agreement with saywhat!
These simply suck!!! I liked the heels at first glance until I realized that the words were not captions but actually on the freakin stilettos.
I’m telling you…this collection is totally ridiculous! Everything reminds me of the Pathmark No Frills Aisle….no kidding! Everything has a designated label and features only a simple colorway.
the line is ehh…i wouldn’t be caught in any of these clothes, except the hoodie which i actually like. and the fact that the line’s colors are black, blue and white appeal to me b/c those are the colors i normally wear. i’m a vampire, i know lol…
……i kinda like this.
its uncommon. i would consider buying the hoodie..
uhmm the jeans not so much though…i would rather get the R&R sign on the back pockets.
but the shoess are kinda cute…this line reminds me of marc jacobss sort of.
I actually really like this, mostly the leggings. I think it’s really cool and minimalist and I will be proud to have “leggings” written on my leg. I can afford real rock and republic but I choose plain wrap.
