Trend Files #040 | One – Sided Shaved Head – Who Started The “Movement” First?
Alright….I think we all know that this topic was going to resurface and cause much heavy debate. So it looks as though Cassie’s much talked about hair-style has found itself on yet another celebrity – LaLa Vasquez! Now I wasn’t really shocked….but what threw me for a loop is when Lala said via Twitter:
Cassie started the “MOVEMENT” i did the “LA LA REMIX”..lol..who will be next..? feels good to let go!!
(Double blank stare)….either Lala has really been out of the loop, or she really hasn’t paid close attention to the trend, Cassie wasn’t the first starlet to be seen in front of the camera’s with this one sided buzz cut. Kelis rocked her style from 2006-2007, Model Alice Dellal has been rocking her cut for a few years now, & Fashion Designer/Singer KESH did a series of cuts way before Cassie attempted her “kitchen-sink” look. And let’s be real…there were a handful of other notable public figures who have been seen trekking throughout the euro-scene with this hair style. Now Lala with her “Remixed Version” (which doesn’t look bad at all) is next up on the chopping block. But the question still lingers on….who actually started this trend first? Ladies…if you do know…please drop some science on us. More views after the jump!
thats right tee alice dellal was one of the first on scene with this hair style! I am so sick of seeing posers like lala and cassie rocking this hair cut! everyone wants to take things and make it mainstream like the who good girl gone bad crap. so sick of it! how much you wanna bet rihanna might do this look?

Im juz sayin’ if you gonna cut off one side of your hair why not do it all??? i just dont get it! cassie does look like she did her hair by herself there is no definition to it. lala at least added some design to it but whats the deal with her pushed back hair line? alice dellal does have that edgy grungy appeal to pull off the look i’ve seen her go as far as putting leopard print on her shaved side and it looked pretty hot. but i still dont get this look!

it’s kinda dumb that people are arguing over who started a hair style trend first, it’s JUST hair!
These women are doing nothing new, if people want to get technical about when this started, they should know that girls have been doing this since the late 70s early 80s
Punk rockers and their followers started this in the 80′s so im going with that. Oh yeah dont forget Raven Symone shaved the side of her head too

honestly we’ll never really be able to pin point who actually started this trend, because im pretty sure it was conceptualized that whole grunge/punk rock movement right?
All I know is giving Cassie ANY type of recognition for that hack job of a hair cut she has is a problem. A STRAIGHT PROBLEM, when it’s obvious she’s jacked it from so many others. It makes Lala look stupid that shes even recognizing that chick.
and i think Lala’s hair looks ok. I think her and cassie just dont have the attitude to pull it off.

at least lala was smart enough not to go too deep with her cut and get a design on it. but for real this is totally wack seeing mainstream poser types take what really started with the punk rockers decades ago.

When I was 15 I got a pixie haircut, and did not like it, so i told my bf to shave my head, and he gave me a cute chelsea cut, i loved it , and shaved my head in all kinds of crazy styles for 3 years, I felt sexxy in a way and now that my hair is growing out it’s softer than ever, and my natural hair is shiney like gold i love it! When it gets long enough i want to cut it all off and donate it to kids with cancer

I actually found this blog just browsing for Jack Davey news but I must say this Rocks! So my story goes: I’ve been a J*Davey fan for a while now, like since 03…. been to shows in Chi and ATL. I’M from MEMPHIS, TN and I never heard of or miraculously bumped into the local J*Davey fan I long to meet (they are very much still underground music) however, just about every girl here has that shaved hairstyle! That just shows how trends often spread like disease! I’ve been a fan for so long but how dare I try to pull off that cut. My afro is rare enough. I remember when that Party Like a Rockstar song came out. I was so pissed! They had a line in the song…something about “on a yacht with Marilyn Manson getting a tan”. If they knew anything about rock music and Manson, they’d know that man is NOT getting a tan. I guess nobody wants to be themselves these days. BTW, Cassie even “borrowed” Jack Davey’s tattoo behind the ear that she copped like two years ago. I say “borrowed” because she’ll most likely be trading that look as soon as the new hot trend comes out.

Do you remember the lead singer from Bow Woo Woo, band from the early 80′s that had the smash hit ” I Want Candy”? I think she was the one who helped become the side shave mainstream. But yeah, before that it was already used a lot in the punk culture. I dont know why this is news now.
