I can’t front….I’ve been under the weather since Thursday! This Michael Jackson death has gotten to me harder than I expected. I don’t know why…but it has! Just sitting back and going through hundreds of flicks…I’ve watched his entire transformation from the 80’s till now. And seeing as though I am an 80’s baby, I feel like a chunk of my childhood has gone into the abyss. I’ll be the first to say that I’ve been balling my eyes out while listening to his music (especially Earth Song). His life/and career was no cake walk….and while his life will always be in heavy debate amongst my peers – I must say that I am totally ANGRY & UPSET that he is gone! Death is apart of our life cycle, and I might sound like a basket case right now…but I feel that everyone on the web has been hypocritical about Michael Jackson from the gate. Calling him all types of names…”wako jacko”…pedophile…wanna be white..and the whole nine prior to his death! And I’ve even seen my own African-American community curse him to damnation when he was a live…and now these are the same people who want to “shuck and jive” up and down the streets of Harlem and say that he was the man & that he will be missed! Go figure! My mother always said that most people are really appreciated when death arises…and you know what she was right! I’ve never personally knew Michael Jackson, but have watched a man perform effortlessly for years as far back as I can remember. Despite his larger than life smile, and numerous transformations in the physical sense – he was obviously sadden behind the bright lights, paparazzi, and media ambushing. But this goes to show that in reality how you can never really please people as a whole! But at least he went to a better place knowing that his work will always stand the test of time, despite what people have been saying about him for years So this weekend, I will be leaving featuring a series of Michael Jackson posts. PREACH! it pisses me off that media sources and people who talked all types of crap about michael jackson are now singing his praises for being the legend he was. Sometimes I sit and think that if maybe we did that while he was alive things may be a little different right now. In almost every blog or article I read, they talk about his troubled personal life, making assumptions and then in the next breath say what a pioneer he was.
People live to lift you up and hold you on a pedestal, but can’t wait to crucify you after your standing on the pedestal THEY GAVE YOU.
@ Dee I am so telling you this is why people are hurting. The things we say and do can affect peoples lives. Look at Michael’s transformation over the years….you know black folks made him feel some way about himself. Talking about his big nose…and everything in between. And the pressure of trying to please everyone can take an emotional toll on a person. Reports have it that he has been battling the use of pain killers. And it pains me to even read about it. I think why I am affected so badly by it is because my mother is the SAME age as Michael. And to see him die out of the blue like this threw me off. And all of these media heads were taking all sorts of junk not too long ago. 4 years ago to be exact….and 10 years prior! Just imagine what that does to a persons mental state. I can go on all day. All I have to say is this….as people…we need to love and respect EVERYONE! I feel EVERYTHING you said!
