I don’t know if you ladies have every experienced this…..but I can tell you that I’ve been a victim of the random double take. Let’s face it…..when fashion is concerned….nothing is really exclusive! Only if you know that specific designer on a personal note…and they love you just that much to hook you up with a “1 of 1″ item that can not be copped at any store. And lastnight the red carpet was full of heat…thanks to my girl Amber Rose & Kanye West (who have to be the dopest couple fashion wise that I’ve seen thus far). Then Amerie hit the scene rocking the same long sleeve mini dress as seen on Amber Rose. My girlfriend called me lastnight just to tell me that both Amerie & Amber Rose were rocking Alexander McQueen lastnight. And while hear-say isn’t good enough information for me, I can’t fully confirm if this dress is indeed McQueen because I have yet to see it! And I’ve browsed through the collections…and haven’t seen this dress in stock any where. But I’ll take my friends advice for the moment! Either way, Amerie & Amber Rose worked the red carpet in the same dress, which I can imagine has to be the most embarrassing moment ever. But only one can reign supreme for the night….and I really think that Amber Rose busted things out as usual! Don’t get me wrong.. Amerie worked the hell out of her McQueen Pelle Leather Sandals – I just don’t think that her tiny frame filled out her entire ensemble well. So the question for this Monday morning is….who worked the red carpet of the 2009 BET Awards? Amerie or Amber Rose? You already know who has my vote. More views after the jump!

I’ve been moving in SLOW motion today…ha! It must be the weather! Any who….today basically everyone (including myself) couldn’t help but to jump on the “Who Ran It” bandwagon. Thanks in part to Rihanna & Paris Hilton…who both obviously have the same taste in Alexander Wang. Crazy enough…Paris Hilton’s choice in evening attire is ten times better than her casual attire (go figure!). And here comes everyone’s favorite celebrity…Ms. Rihanna who’s sense of style has been given a superior boost thanks to her mystery stylist. So today’s Trend Face-Off is the battle of the “Wang” – (Alexander Wang’s Corset Dress) which comes with a power punch of a price tag. Try $795 to be exact….before the taxes! Hi ladies…I hope that you are all having a fabulous Memorial Day weekend. Everyone is pretty much out and about. And while I should be chilling in the Hamptons like everyone else, I am at home – watching throw back movies…and brain storming (as usual). Only to find myself going through some of this seasons looks of some of my favorite celebrities. Thus leaving me to really dig deep on who really has this seasons trend-worthy looks down pack. So far Rihanna has been in the public eye pretty much every waking day of the moment. And while her style is nothing to joke with….some of us (including myself) feel that there is still some room from improvement. The Olsen twins always manage to keep some notable buzz since they’ve been long dubbed as fashion icons – but are they really? It’s all up for debate….so ladies let it rip! Alright…so this is the issue on this wonderful Friday. We have another case of OVERLY PRICED accessories just for the sake of saying it’s labeled name. And while I love high-end accessories like th next fashion fanatic…I wont ever (not even if I won the lotto) splurge on nonsense. Granted Rodarte’s buzz-worthy thigh-highs are interesting…but in all reality…it’s really not that deep! Especially that $920 price tag..(minus the tax). Perhaps it could be that the $920 distracts us from the mere fact that these thigh-highs are simply that….just thigh highs! Nothing to protect the “bush” or crack….just our thighs. But hey, you got to love the innovative pursuit done but Rodarte….but there are some very scissors savvy dames who have taken the look up a notch on a pair of American Apparel Lamé leggings adding their creative twist on things. Six Six Sick’s Tiffany has the skill & patience to match her DIY version of Rodarte’s Thigh Highs….for a fraction of the cost. But if you are anything like me…you would most likely practice on a pair of thirftshop bought stretch pants before butchering a pair of $42 stretch pants…right? Exactly! Inspiration: The leggings from the Rodarte show, which I haven’t actually seen in person, appear to be made of laser cut leather, with zippers up the back. They aren’t actually full leggings, they’re thigh highs that are held up with a garter. The pattern in the front is completely cut out in diamonds, and has the appearance of large fishnet.

Close up, you can see that the pattern become irregular at the back. I followed the same idea, cutting out the entire front section of the legging, while cutting diamonds selectively (but not arbitrarily) from the back. Also note that since the wetlook fabric is spandex, it will stretch a lot more than the leather.

1. I started by making a stencil for myself on graph paper, which approximated the size and pattern of the diamonds.

2. Carefully, I cut out each of the diamonds.

3. I turned the leggings inside out, and placed the stencil on top of it. Using tailor’s chalk, I transfered the pattern onto the legging, starting first with a couple of rows. I proceeded to carefully cut out the diamonds, starting at the tip of a diamond and making a tiny V shaped incision with the scissors, and then cutting around. Try to keep the lines clean, and straight! When I finished, I repeated the step, being very careful to line up the stencil with my previous cut-outs to ensure a uniform pattern. Continue this step until you reach the bottom of the leg. Do the other leg.

4. For the back of the legging, I used the stencil to design a more random pattern. I also made sure that I cut some random diamonds down the side of the leg, to avoid having a long continuous line of unbroken black fabric.

Anyway, this is kind of a massive pain in the ass project, and if you do it, don’t be surprised if you find yourself thinking “F***, I’d rather be knitting/blogging/making out” so I advise you to do it bit by bit. I completed this pair after working on it a little bit every day for a week.

What a day I had today…geez! If it weren’t bad enough the rain put a damper on my day, but I had other issues behind the scenes. But its all cleared up and over with…..thank goodness! Anyway, as usually I find myself breezing around the web for goodies…only to pull up to the bumper on Kim Kardashian’s feet. Kimmy was spotted at JFK airport yesterday rocking some interesting chic Maison Martin Margiela patent leather boots. Which instantly set off a quick surge through my memory rolodex…..leading me back to March where Rihanna was spotted out and around NYC in celebration of her belated birthday – where she too rocked the same Maison Martin Margiela Line 22 boots. But I am wondering who pulled the look off down to the stitch. Rihanna is definitely a fashion-beast if you ask me! Always one-up above the masses…but her recent gelled down / Michael Jackson hair do is actually driving me nuts. So you can’t help but to stare at her hair more than her shoes. Then comes Kim Kardashian who obviously is dressed for flight in a casual yet comfortable ensemble adding a purple tunic top to brighten up her entire look.
