Sexy Inner Outerwear – (Trend Files #085)

Perhaps I should’ve taken a survey before doing this post. But I couldn’t help but to get into a serious debate with one of my closest friends who found it necessary to inform me that sporting your underwear is the way to go this season. And it isn’t in the everyday manner you may think that your undergarments should be worn. Sexy bustier-clad tops & lingerie-styled garbs have been worked relentlessly down the runway for the 2010 spring/summer season. Does this trend have to potential of catching on like wild fire? Only time will tell, and I am quite sure that Lady Gaga is the first celebrity figure that comes to mind when really taking the time out to think about this ghastly trend. But is it really ghastly? Or can we take a snippet of this trend to the extra mile, without looking like a two-dollar hooker? Maybe! But I (personally) have to confess that there should be a limit of what strangers eyes should see off of the catwalk. Sheer tops / blouses should be modest, and should also feature a sexy brassier that complements your figure along with your bustline. Corsets are always an interesting look, yet the cheaper versions available for sale should sometimes stay on store front shelves….that is just my opinion. But, If you do choose to go down the affordable path of sporting intimates this season, please go for items that bring some modesty to your potential looks. Cropped For Your Viewing Pleasure – (Trend Files # 084)

Let me just say that I am totally enjoying this season’s blitz of 80’s inspired trends. Lately I’ve been overly obsessing on the look cropped T-shirts. I’ve made it a priority to purchase a few thanks in part to the southern heat that’s hovering around my neck of the woods. So back to “cropped tops” – I love them! For one, the look of a vintage cropped top works wonders matched against premium denim no matter the cut. Boyfriend or skinny jeans will give any cropped top / t-shirt a beneficial advantage of making this trend work for pretty much any body type. And so what if you don’t possess a firm six-pack, many of us work with a little pouch – no worries, a basic spandex tank will help confine those minor problem areas. Be sure to work a basic colored basic spandex tank underneath your copped T-shirt look if your self –conscience. For sure, this trend has shot far out into the retail stratosphere – which means that this trend can run would-be shoppers mad with the various price points. American Apparel should be your very first pit-stop on your “cropped top” journey – you can never go wrong with spending on $17 on AA’s Loose Crop Tee. Topshop is another retail giant that has embraced this trend to the fullest degree, by adding a series collection of styles that are readily available via their website & various locations. Flirty Scarves – (Trend Files #083)

I am finally back! You ladies have no idea, parenthood is not a joke. This totally reminds me that I have been slacking all ends of the spectrum. Shopping wise, I think that I have thrown out my shopping list – exchanging it for toddler must-buys. Despite being fully engulfed with keeping up with a tiny tot, my eyes and ears have been fully in tune with this season hottest trends. Lately, I have been scanning the looks from some of our favorite celebrities, and today’s focus is all about the infamous silk scarf. Whether it is worn on your head, around your waist, or around your neck – this simple accessory has found itself on my radar. I can’t help to admire the many stylish looks celebrities have created with various scarves, coming in an array of print, colorways, & lengths. Contrary to what the popular vote may say on scarves, I personally feel that women overlook the idea of even purchasing a simple scarf outside of the winter solstice. Go for exotic leopard print scarves while wearing a basic ensemble which may consist of a basic white tank and your favorite pair of denim. Or spruce up your evening wear with a seasonal digital print scarf which so happens to be one of the more talked about statement pieces of the season. And if you are woman who isn’t worried about the hype of it all, try keeping things basic with a simple scarf….trust me it comes in handy when accessories are scarce at the moment. Aren’t you excited that the spring season is finally here? Not only can you prepare yourself to shed those bulky goose-down coats, but you can look forward to showing some skin…even in a subtle way of course. For me the spring always entails super feminine detail from head to toe. Accessories, has to be one of my favorite topics of choice! And cuff style bracelets & bangles are my major focus right now. There is something about wearing the right cuff bracelet with the perfect boyfriend jacket, or casual & yet sexy dress that does wonders. If you’re a cuff fanatic (like me) you’ll first glance over the available resin styled cuffs such as Yves Saint Laurent Signature Bracelet (price: $450), Rick Owens Horn Cuff Bracelet (Price: $430), & my personal favorite pick Tory Burch’s Resin Loco Cuff (Price: $45 /SOLD OUT). As we all know, no one at this point and time can truly afford to splurge hundreds of dollars on resin cuff pieces. And you’d be surprised as to the affordable deals that are readily available at various retailers, so be sure to keep a look out when shopping around! If resin is not your material of choice, you can most definitely step up the ante and work metals, wood, & shell-clad cuffs into your potential trendy ensembles.

Easy Breezy Causal Jumpsuits & Rompers – (Trend Files #081)

Since my big move out of NYC, I have been busy organizing my closet space. Not only has my closet size gotten bigger, but I’ve realized that am I truly need of some clothing. I can’t even joke about this one, seeing as though my daily routine of unpacking has gotten to the point where I find myself standing in front of boxes sobbing while asking that fatal question “where the hell are my clothes?”. With spring in the air, and a hot dose of being lazy – I’ve already figured out what I need first in my wardrobe. And that would be a new few sets of causal jumpsuits. I’ve scanned Arden B, and found myself loving the Off the Shoulder Drape Romper which stands priced at a cool $49. Not bad…right?! Martha Rey has my heart right now, simply because Tie-Dye never fails during the spring & summer months – and the Tie Dye Jumpsuit Cover Up that I’ve spotted via ShopBop will continue you get a weekly look until it goes on sale! However my mind (at the current moment) is set on purchasing a few “kick-around” rompers for running town. Forever 21 never fail putting a smile on my face, thanks in part to a few basic jumpsuits that are worth taking view of. Such as the Simply Woven Romper (price: $22.80) & the Strapless Silk Romper (price:$24.80). The madness doesn’t stop there; you already know that I have a few picks up my sleeve. Minimal Details – (Trend Files #080)

I think everyone can agree that Spring has to be the best season of the year. My favorite time of spring is around the month of April going forward into May when the sun shines freely. Which means in TrendDoll terms – let the abundance of color prevail!
I used to be very weary of the whole “white on white” way of thinking in regards to spring fashion. It was such a clichéd trend used over and over again, so much to the point where I’ve opted out of following the gossiped trend forecasts. Then again I am such a serious klutz when it comes to wearing white. You’ll usually find a few sweat stains, in addition to my hormonal sweat stains usually found around the armpits of white ensembles that I once wore up and down the city streets. So this spring, I’ve been looking to keep the “minimal detailed” look simple without over doing it! So let’s try to keep the notion of white-on-white for the spring at bay for just a spell. Work a few colorful pieces into your spring wardrobe, and also take full advantage of those semi-muted pieces that are surfacing throughout the retail scene. Such as tope, beige, pale lavender…..you get what I am saying…right?!

Granted, many of our favorite designers have been pitching their ideal looks for the spring – such as super poufy shoulders, overly ruffled tops & dresses, and everything that screams southern belle debutant and not practical everyday woman attire. Besides, who really has the time to always super glam up the look of what should be consider basic for the spring? You’d be surprised of what power accessories could do this dilemma.

I’m an absolute fan of the neutral hued T-shirt dress look. It’s simply perfect for any time (both day & night). This is definitely a good opportunity for to let your inner Rachel Zoe out! Accessories can unleash their power matched against a comfortable cotton-blended T-shirt dress. I’ve got my eyes cornered on American Apparel’s Fine Jersey T-Dress (priced at $26) and is available in an array of colorways. Diesel is always good for giving us lades sexy & yet casual looks. You might want to check out Diesel’s Cape Layered Longline T-shirt Dress which is currently on sale (via ASOS) for $82.76!

I have only ten days left until I leave NYC! What I am going to miss the most about the big city is the selection of towering shoes that make their presence felt while stomping ground on the cold concrete pavements. And with each new season that comes around, there is an annual upgrade of our most dependable trends. Case in point…the wedge style shoe! But wait! The runways have already determined what we should look for while shopping for this trend. Think bold printed exteriors, exaggerated wedge heels, embellishments (minimal or extreme). And if you are wondering what can solidify your belief that this trend will actually work for you – try to think about what items are a constant staple in your closet space. Off the top, we’ll match skirts & dresses with a unique pair of wedge styled shoes. But for 2010, try incorporating a tailored selection of shorts with this seasons wedge trend. Ah, yes it is still cold and the winter is upon us! Which means that you should check out the available winter selections of wedge styled shoes that are currently available at select retailers. Burberry’s suede wedge angle boot (currently on sale: $480), work well with your favorite pair of jeans & winter-ready outerwear. If your nervous about purchasing a pair of suede with the fear of marks & scuffing, you can always work around supple leather selections like Opening Ceremony’s Ruched Ankle Wedge Boot (on sale now for $325). Spring Fanny Packin’ – (Trend Files #071)

Minimal – that is the latest forecast for this spring. If you’ve already noticed that this season’s collections have been clean, basic, and straight to the point. The winter season is still upon us, but as you already know the retail sector is always a two seasons ahead. In other words, you’ll have ample time to collect your thoughts on which trends to work with for the upcoming spring transition. Fanny packs…there is something about a fanny, bum bag, belt back – (whatever you would like to call it ) that brings some kind of usefulness into your daily lifestyle. Yeah, some of us automatically think that senior citizens or tourist fawn over the look of the fanny pack. But you might want to reconsider the notion. Marc Jacobs obvious had more than just ordinary handbags on his mind. Jacobs took his love for the “fanny pack” above and beyond the normal way we view accessories that attached itself to our hips. Alright, so let’s think about a set budget! I think where we all fall short for seasonal shopping when giving ourselves a set budget. Whether it be on a full collection of clothing or just one simple accessory, setting a strict spending limit for shopping is mandatory in my book! If you are willing to spend between the $350-$500 price range Gucci is definitely your first destination. There are two fanny pack styles available, my personal favorite comes in a beige/ebony colorway and features that vintage styled Gucci monogram leather. Leather always comes in handy when dealing with the elements. If leather isn’t your thing, you can always take one step up and go for Gucci’s washed cotton fanny which comes in four color variations. Gucci’s trademark monogram is practical & and noticeable to all luxury belle’s for who would like to put her goodies in one space. Alexander Wang is a yet a nothing “no miss” theory on the fanny pack forefront. Wang’s Denim Effect Bag Belt is currently on sale via Luisaviaroma.com ($941.90). Ok, Ok, Ok,….so you’re probably thinking “Why is Tee, showing us all of the expensive fanny bags?”…..right?! Well no need to worry, American Apparel is always your surefire best bet on spending virtually less while working with this season’s trend. Nylon, vinyl, & shiny Denim, you can take charge on the scene by spending less than $20. If the idea of rocking a fanny pack still irks you silly, you can always find super conservative belt bags which feature small pouches that sit perfectly on the waist instead of below it. Denim Hues Made Only For You – (Trend Files #070)

Denim, what is there to say other than it has to be the quintessential must have item to have in your entire wardrobe. Whoever deems it necessary to live without a pair of denim must have one boring outlook on fashion. There are just so many brands & interesting styles to choose from! Skinny jeans have had its share of pro’s and cons seen on various body types, leaving fashion junkies in a constant battle behind the trend as a whole. I on the other hand still battle (at times) with the skinny jean – but can vouch heavily on rocking them with a pair of calf-length boots. Then comes the re-birth of the ever so popular boyfriend jean, which I have to say that I wasn’t really feeling at first. Thanks to the saggy crotch & awkward fit. But I can always welcome that comfort factor that looks pretty decent paired with a perfectly tailored tuxedo blazer, casual T-shirt, or anything that may bring our “of the runway” casual sense of style. Oh yes, and who can forget about those distressed denim styles, that always manage to leave us in a confused state. Whereas you’ve contemplated on going full throttle with the idea of splurging (on the latest brands) just to keep up with the fast paced fashion realm. You best resort is to take at least $25 to your nearest Goodwill , find that right already worn denim piece, a bottle of Tide, and give your washing machine one hell of a ride. Denim clad chambray shirts are definitely making it’s point this season, matched against either leggings or straight leg jeans finishing off the look with a chunky buckled belt. And let us not forget the various array of denim dresses that are out on the market – take your pick! This season, denim forecasters are already going stir crazy with the looks that they feel are best for this season. I’ve already read that this season’s trend ideas are to mix medium-light denims with supple & yet rugged colored brown accessories & footwear, and to avoid anything tie-dyed or acid washed. But this isn’t Vogue…nor Elle…this is TrendDoll.com! So I’ll be the first to let you know that you should work your denim well into your vibrant personality! Fully Caped Down – (Trend Files #069)

If you haven’t noticed the weather reports as of late, or felt the eerie bone chilling weather in your neck of the woods. Then that obviously means you’ve been snuggling up next to a warm heater with a big smile on your face. And if you’ve stepped foot out on the streets of NYC, during this arctic blast we all like to call the winter season, then you already know that women are bundling up from head to toe. The winter months are really a tricky considering that your own line of defense is your winter coat, warm boots, & other quintessential winter accessories. I totally doubt, if you take the chance to notice what anyone is wearing once that cold chill hits your brow. But what I’ve been noticing (behind the screen) is that some of our favorite celebrities have scrolled back into the archives on us. It’s all about the capes. And if you are thinking that you’d might look like a superhero instead of a fashion forward debutante, let me tell you right now that you’d better pause and reconsider the notion. And yes, I am well aware that there are some styles of capes that should be banned and never seen again. Oddly enough, those are usually the styles of capes that may be spotted on the backs of Lady Gaga or better yet Mischa Barton (seen above). So you’re probably wondering what good would a cape do for your winter/pre-spring wardrobe….right? And my answer is EVERYTHING! The hardest issue about the winter season, has to be the nightlife attire – and how to blend your outerwear with your inner-wear. Think about the many of occasions where you’ve been forced to wear a dress during the chilling days of the winter! Come on who want’s to be spotted wearing a bubble down coat with fancy attire?
