Alright, so yesterday I found myself doing some behind the scenes updates on TrendDoll, when I overheard the weatherman state that this weekend will be approximately 82 degrees in the city. With that in mind, I got flashbacks of this past weekend, when women were spotted rocking hotpants in the middle of April without a care in the world. Not only did I sweat my brains out aimlessly in a T-shirt and light hooded sweater while taking photos. But I was reminded that this is the season to bare some skin in a tasteful manner of course! Hotpants are definitely one of those interesting features we all would like to have added to our wardrobes. Leaving women wondering if they could actually pull off the look without looking scandalous. True enough…it can be done! Yes, I know it’s one of those risqué looks – which some would say are meant to be worn by women of a size two frame. But I say, that the look goes perfectly with slender & curvy body types as well. Recently we’ve encountered Christina Milian pulling off the hotpants look with a vintage T-shirt, hoody, set against sexy heels…focusing all of the attention on her legs (as it should be done!). Where as our favorite “Trend Dolll” Amber Rose took it on the other side of the fence…letting our eyes focus a little bit more on other regions of her body, other than her legs. Either way, I will fully pledge to slip my size 8 hump into a pair of hotpants this summer…with the hopes that it doesn’t ride up my thighs into my booty! Trust me, that isn’t a pretty site! I hope you ladies have had a fabulous weekend. I must say that this weekend in the NYC was really a true treat. Not only did mother nature grace us with her warm hand, but it made room for lots of interesting celebrity sightings in the city. The warm spring-time weather also gave way to a flurry of denim jackets adorn on the backs of women up and down the Manhattan strip. However, our favorite Trend Doll Rihanna set things off when she was spotted this past weekend sporting the Balmain Military Style Denim Jacket. As you recall, we discussed the whole Balmain hoopla last week. And at a slightly lower price margin than the Balmain crystal-embellished canvas jacket – we can all give two thumbs up to Rihanna for pulling off the $5,075 jacket with the purest of ease. And while the majority of the world would like to splurge on Balmain baubles, we can open our wallets to more affordable options out on the market. Thankfully, upon scanning the web – I was able to track down a few light blue hued jackets to take mental note of. Check the stats after the jump!
I don’t know about you…but I have always loved leggings. Before the trend blew itself up and out of the water (once again), I would literally by second hand leggings and wear them in secrecy behind four walls and a door- simply because they were perfect for lounge wear. And well…I really don’t like having my booty jiggle out on city streets…ha! Remember the days…way back when – where women wore leggings and oversized tops? Only to be given the side-eye by fashion critics in return. Who ever knew that within the last three years, the trend would kick in full gear and make way for luxury “stretchy pants” as I usually call them. It’s gotten to the point where women have left their the oversized shirts at home, pairing up their leggings with a tight lycra tank/or top to match. Obviously rehashing the days of America’s favorite housewife…Peggy Bundy…minus the over the top red hair! Lindsay Lohan has made headlines with her “6126″ collection of leggings in 2008 – which believe it or not have been flying off of in-store & online shelves. But only one can wonder where and how does anyone miraculously pull out hundred-dollar price points for lycra infused bottoms? Then again we are indeed talking about Lindsay Lohan. I’ll give credit where it’s due…the collection does feature some playful pieces. HOWEVER ..(and you girls knew that was coming)…I just can’t see myself purchasing leggings over $40! You can me cheap to the tenth power…I’ll gladly raise my hands up with pride on that note! But after eye-witnessing the $70-$140 price tags on 6126 leggings, I will no longer complain about the price points via American Apparel. We can only image how much La-Lohan will charge for her hosiery line…(blank stare). Anyway, check out the stats after the jump!
Alright….the first thing to come to mind when looking at a pair of harem pants is what? MC Hammer perhaps? For the most part, many of you would say “Hell Yes”….and there are some who really could give two bats of an eye lash about MC Hammer. But for the most part, you can’t help to notice the steady incline of harem-style pants resurfacing from the 90’s time machine straight back to the 2009 spring/summer scene. A while back I had a conversation with a good friend of mine, about the trend and how I hated it! That was until….I found a pair of harem pants for $4 bucks at my local thriftshop and decided to give it a try! You can’t loose on a pair of four dollar pants! And with this seasons trend meter on high, thanks to the dropped crotch persuasion…many women from the east to west have been marking their territory with the lastest harem styles available. Try your luck on this springs trend! And if you are still sketchy about even placing a leg into a pair….run into your favorite local retailer that may have them available in stock…try them on…then decide!. Alright so I don’t know if you have been scanning the web as of late….but I had to add my two cents into this newly found obsession by many…BALMAIN! Seeing as though by nature I am a woman of simplistic taste, it seems as though everyone including their grandmothers have been on hawk mode – slapping down cash, credit, and a left arm…just to make all heads turn this season. There is no doubt that the celebrities make no qualms of their everyday over the top spending. Case in point…Beyonce – who was spotted on Monday night (here in NYC), rocking the Micheal Jackson-like Balmain Crystal-embellished canvas jacket. To which might I add comes with a mortgage-like down payment of $11,410. Beyonce isn’t the only one on the BALMAIN tip….Rihanna has her Balmain game on total smash. Switching up jackets & footwear, Rihanna has made it known for the past two months that she is an avid Balmain supporter. Along with celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, who has been seen sporting Balmain jackets as of late which has kicked off heavy style jury debates. So your probably wondering where do I fit into all of this hoopla ….right? Well….I can’t really figure out what the real big deal is on the entire “BALMAINIA” trend. In my honest opinion….there is no real “Wow factor”. Super retro 80’s styled pointy shoulder pads tucked under lambskin bothers me! Over the top crystallized shoes & jackets totally scream TACKY! Not to mention the price! I am all for expensive baubles and totally love luxury pieces of all kinds…but this Balmain trend has not moved me off of my seat. The only exception thus far comes in the form of the Balmain Tassel Ankle Sandals – which are very cute for the upcoming summer. Other than that…I am still stumped on the selections seen thus far! Alright so this weekend I was frantic running around my apartment trying to prepare for my taxes…when my blackberry buzzed off of the hook thanks in part to R&B singer Cassie’s new do. She reported via her twitter page:

- Something that displays the “I don’t give a fuck” attitude that was always present, but never showcased.
- …& something that will shock your mother, but make her call you a ROCK STAR….
- They ask why?? Lol… B/C I WOKE UP AND FELT LIKE IT!!! YEEEAHHH!!! LOL

But really are we shocked? Seeing as though that this look has already been done before. Especially by those who can actually pull off this specific look. Hence…J*Davey, French stylist/photographer Kristina Girsors, and many other non conforming trendsetting individuals. I on the other hand maintain a buzzed hair cut…simply because I am lazy! I’ll put it out there…ha! But I can’t help but to think that Cassie’s drastic turn of follicle events have arrived do to sheer boredom. Or perhaps much needed attention? Whatever the case is…who ever her barber might have been…or even if she did it herself – this look should have been much better than what these images show. I’m sorry, but I don’t think that this look fits Cassie! Straight up! I honestly think that this was an attempt of trying to stand out just a little bit “TOO HARD” . What do you ladies think? Are we feeling it…or should she try..try..again?
